Abstract

Understanding and measuring Comprehensive National Power is crucial for every nation, as it provides a comprehensive view of the country's strength and influence on the international stage. From this, leaders can assess their nation's standing and potential in the global arena and formulate appropriate national development strategies and foreign policies. The ultimate goal is to safeguard national security from potential threats. Arising from this necessity, Japan and many other nations worldwide has also conducted research and assessments of its Comprehensive National Power. In this article, we present the concept of Comprehensive National Power, Japan's perspective and formula for calculating it, and an overview of Japan's Comprehensive National Power throughout history up to three decades of the 21st century.
